East Westphalia is completely unknown in many parts of Germany, at least as a region. This is a sign of poor regional marketing, but it does not reflect the real strength of the region. In addition to large corporations such as Bertelsmann, Claas, Miele and Dr. Oetker, there are also a whole series of globally active “medium-sized companies” that generate more than one billion euros in revenue. Some industries have established themselves in OWL, one of them is furniture and kitchen construction.
In addition to large suppliers such as Nobilia Kitchens, small and medium-sized kitchen construction, parts supply and sales companies are also based in OWL. And even though the entire industry has undergone some consolidation in recent years, there are still a number of companies that make very good money selling kitchens, bathrooms and other furniture.
Our customer was exactly one of these companies, a spin-off from the parent company for better marketing of our own and third-party products via the Internet. What started as a one-man-show soon developed into a flourishing e-commerce company and the question of professionalizing the systems now arose.
Equipped with exactly this order, we set out in cooperation with Neuland Medien to take up the customer’s requirements and derive sensible options for action from them. Our approach follows a standardized procedure, which has already proven itself in several customer projects:
At the end the customer receives a clear list of his options for action, as well as recommendations for the selection of the shop software, the e-commerce architecture and the further target group classification. In addition to these condensed strategy documents, the discussions in the workshops with the e-commerce managers and management are at least as important. Many strategically important points have usually never been discussed or considered immovable before. Here, a moderated discussion can reveal completely new options and thus show the company new scope for action in e-commerce.
In addition to the selection of suitable systems and requirements, strategy consulting is therefore always charged with keeping an eye on the long-term orientation of the company and thus enabling continuous growth.
